The Yellowknife International Film Festival (YKIFF) is a five-day event where filmmakers and media artists showcase their work to film buffs in Yellowknife and around the world. Along with film premieres, the festival hosts workshops and masterclasses, and provides opportunities for the public to engage with film professionals and emerging artists.
The YKIFF is an exciting, fast-paced affair where an immense amount of information on films, artists and workshops needs to be immediately available to participants who are constantly moving from venue to venue.
YKIFF needed a website that curated content and organized it into easily navigated categories— like schedules, bios, film write-ups and workshops—and was also responsive, or designed with a mobile-first approach, as most festival-goers would be visiting the site on their phones. They also wanted the site to be easy to update from year to year.
Functionality wasn’t the only consideration. YKIFF also wanted to reflect the artistry and creative flare of the film industry, as well as the unique culture of the North. Brand work was needed to create compelling visual elements that would blend seamlessly with the required functionality of the site.
We built the new website from the ground up. Incorporating an intuitive user experience and a robust back-end with Webflow, we made it easy to showcase the festival's programming, amazing films and special guests. This design also allowed festival administrators to easily update and curate content.
YKIFF’s established logo had strong brand recognition, so we had to think carefully about what was needed. The logo was a little rough, so keeping its essence, we updated and formalized it. We also provided a logo package to help facilitate website design ideas and further professional marketing.
