The Yukon Baby Basket project, launched by the Yukon Government Midwifery Program, aims to support new and expectant parents by providing essential items, educational resources, and a safe sleep option for their babies. This initiative is designed to ease the transition into parenthood by offering practical and supportive resources tailored to the unique needs of Yukon families.
The project faced two significant challenges. The first was to create an appealing package that resonated with a diverse audience. The second was developing resources tailored to the unique environment and needs of Yukon families.
Designed with both practicality and safety in mind, the Yukon Baby Basket features a sturdy cardboard construction with a mattress insert, ensuring a safe and portable sleeping option for babies. The design incorporates the tranquil beauty of the Yukon landscape, illustrated in a soothing palette of blues, greens, and earth tones. Stylized trees, hills, and clouds create a sense of calm, reflecting the natural beauty of the region.
Each basket is filled with a thoughtfully selected array of items, including baby clothes, diapers, blankets, and hygiene products. These curated essentials provide new parents with the immediate necessities for their newborns, easing the burden of acquiring these items on their own. Additionally, the basket includes valuable educational materials on topics such as safe sleep practices and breastfeeding. These resources equip parents with the knowledge and best practices needed to care for their infants effectively.
By addressing these challenges, we aimed to help new parents in the Yukon receive both the physical and educational support they need to start their parenting journey with greater confidence.
