Overview

The Indigenous Women & Inclusive Communities Virtual Resource Centre (IWIC VRC) is a comprehensive digital platform that connects Indigenous women, girls, two-spirit, transgender, and gender-diverse people in Yukon and Northern BC with vital services, cultural knowledge, and community support. This platform honours Indigenous values by offering clear, accessible pathways to wellness, cultural connection, and holistic support.

Challenge

Access to essential services in Yukon and Northern BC has historically been fragmented, with crucial information scattered across various organizations and platforms. IWIC sought to create a centralized, culturally respectful digital space capable of supporting a diverse array of needs, including crisis response, housing, cultural revitalization, and 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy. The platform was designed to authentically reflect Indigenous worldviews. It also aimed to bridge generations by connecting Elders’ wisdom with youth experiences in an environment that feels welcoming, inclusive, and intuitive to navigate.

Solution

We partnered closely with IWIC to define the platform from the ground up, starting with naming, brand identity, logo design, and a comprehensive brand guide to lay a clear, culturally grounded foundation. We then designed and built the website as an intuitive, user-focused digital hub, guided by a strong UI/UX strategy and purposeful information architecture. Resources are thoughtfully organised into clear categories such as Cultural Revival, Health and Wellbeing, Youth, Elders, Crisis Support, and 2SLGBTQIA+, making it easy for users to find support quickly and confidently. A robust service provider directory connects users with over 40 local organisations. Carefully crafted content balances traditional teachings, land-based learning, and cultural practices with contemporary supports. The result is an accessible and respectful platform that empowers users to engage at their own pace and in ways that work best for them.
