Bridging communities and researchers for respectful collaboration

Challenge
For too long, research in Lhù'ààn Mân happened to the Kluane community rather than with it. Kluane First Nation wanted to change that dynamic with a website that sets clear expectations for researchers, shares community protocols openly, and grounds the whole relationship in respect. The site had to balance genuine knowledge-sharing with real cultural care, and make Indigenous data principles impossible to miss.
Solution
We built a platform that introduces Kluane protocols up front, maps out climate change research across the traditional territory in an interactive view, and spells out clear community expectations. OCAP principles (Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession) are woven through, not buried in a footnote. Built on Astro, the site is fast, durable, and easy to maintain for the long haul, which matters for a resource meant to guide research relationships for years.
Results
The site does exactly what it set out to do: reach a specialized audience of researchers, partners, and community members with care. Over the past year it served 645 visitors and 1,252 page views, with an average engagement time of 32 seconds, the kind of considered reading you'd hope for from a resource this substantive. The rebuild is quick to load, easy to find, and built to strong accessibility standards, on a lightweight Astro foundation made to last.
